Jin Youzhi Dress Spec Drawing....

This is the Jin Youzhi Dress spec drawing that I have finished today. I have another dress to finish before I can complete this FMP unit. I am hoping to finish it before tomorrow so that I can hand this unit in for marking.

Jia Li Dress Spec Drawing....

Today I have completed another spec drawing for one of my unit and it's the Jia Li dress that is part o my collection. It took me quite a while to create the spec drawing because of the chain details at the back but I'm happy with the outcome.

Collar disaster....

Today I have finally attached the collar and faced my michiko coat. Last week I made up this collar that I was proud of but today when I tried to sew it on to the coat it turns out that it was too long so it didn't fit the neckline because I only made up the measurements and shape of the collar.
So I have created a new pattern and made the new collar for my coat.

This is what I did to create my new collar pattern.
  • I took the front and back patterns (with neckline) and stuck them together on the shoulder seam. Then I took the tape measurement and measured the neckline from the red line on the button stand along the orange line and to the red line at the back. (30.5cm)

  •  I then drew the 30.5cm measurement on the tracing paper the decided what the width neasurement is which 9cm. I then conected the lines together creating a rectangle shape.

  • Then I cut out the shape and added 3 slashes on one to create the curve shape of the collar.

  • I re-traced the shape out then added seam allowace around except from the centre back because it's cut on fold. I added all the information as well like grainline, my name and pattern name etc.
Now that I have created the pattern I can now cut it out in calico/fabric.
  • I've cut the pattern in fabric/calico x2.

  • I then sew along the top edge of the collar piece with 1.5cm seam allowance, trimmed it in half then turned it inside out.

  • I attached the collar piece to the coat with 1.5cm seam allowance.

Shoulder sampling....

I had to sample similar type of garment that has the effect and outcome that I wanted for the shoulders of my coat. I found this Vintage Vogue Pattern and I thought that the shoulders was similar to my design so I pattern it and made it in calico. Here is what I have made.

It wasn't quite the effect that I was looking for so I sampled some other method to get the effect that I am looking for. On my FMP sketchbook, I sampled a method that could work well with the shoulder area. The shape was inspired by the Sydney opera house that I experimented on my sketchbook.
Here is what it looks like on the coat. I will need to hand sew it to the coat insteadd of the sewing machine considering my target market.

I think this method looks better than the first one so I'm going to choose this method for the shoulder.

Toiling continue...

  • Sew the other back side panel with 1.5cm seam allowance then press the seams open.

  • Sew in the front darts on both pieces with 1.5cm seam allowance then press.

  • Sew the front and back shoulder seams together on both sides with 1.5cm seam allowance. Press the seams open.

  • Sew the front and back side seams together on both sides with 1.5cm seam allowance then press the seams open.

  • Cut out the sleeves in calico.

  • Sew the sleeves together awith 1.5cm seam allowance and then match the sleeves to the arms of the coat with 1.5cm seam allowance.
  • Knotch around to give some ease then press open.

  • Do the same on the other side.

This is what I have done on my toiling last week.

burberry prorsum fall RTW 2012 front row

Front row seaters at the Burberry Prorsum fall RTW 2012 collection of February 20th. I recognised some of the clothing that they were wearing on that day. These are some of the clothing that I recognised which was Burberry prorsum's Spring RTW 2012 collection.

Girls Generation
Seohyun, Yoona and Tiffany

Tiffany is wearing the dress but wore different shoes from the collection to spice it up a little bit and shortened the hem to show off her slim legs.

Yoona is wore this dress but changed her heels. I think that the colour complimented her skin and she pulled it off really well.

Seohyun wore this coat/dress and heels. She paired it with over sized clutch and chunky belt to accentuate her tiny waist. This outfit made her look more mature and sophisticated without trying.

Ebru Salli

She's wearing the coat/dress and belt but wore different heels and handbag to make it look different and unique from the catwalk outfit.

Design Development

Yesterday I manage to finish 3 out of 4 of my design development sheet. It took more time than I thought because of the figure and colouring. I just need to attach some fabric swatches and sample areas that are difficult however I haven't chosen my final fabric yet so I don't think I can attach them yet.

Here are the ones that I finished and coloured in,

Planning my final concept presentation.

For my final concept presentation I decided that I would illustrate my concept instead of creating a video or doing a photo shoot. I have included things that represent my FMP theme and what I have experimented on my sketchbook. Since the theme of my FMP are Asian culture and military, I have included a picture of a Kimono dress photocopied in acetate and buttons with relates to military.
Here is what u have come up with for my final concept presentation.

Chen Trouser Spec Drawing

Here is a spec drawing that I have made for my trouser design. I tried to copy my design as much as I can, as I am not an expert on Adobe Illustrator yet.

I will add fabric swatches and colour once I have mastered the software :) Thanks for reading!
