11 Days Left....

SInce I have done eveything that I could for my Michiko coat yesterday I started to sew together my long red dress called Jia Li dress and my Chen trousers. I will need to buy concealed zips for my garments and some interfacing ready for the coat collar, trouser waistband, facings for most of the garments and for the shoulder features.

This trousers will go with the Michiko coat as one outfit. I can't wait to stud the waistband to see what it fully looks like.

12 Days left...

Today I concentrated on getting the sleeves onto the Michiko coat. Although there's only 12/11 days left to finish all of my garments, I'm honestly quite calm and not letting it get to me because it will make me more stressed. Of course I'm nervous and scared whether or not I'm going to finish all of my garments but I just try not to think about it too much.
Anyways here's what I've done today. It's slowly taking shape now I've just to to attach the collar before the fittings week.

Patterning Chen Trouser ....

This week I have started to toile the Chen trouser that goes with my Michiko coat. Here's what I have done so far.

1.       I traced off a trouser block

2.       Because I want the trouser leg to be fitted, I had to take it in a little. I had to measure the mannequins knee (34cm) and heel/ankle (29.5cm) length. I measured the original length of the trouser block ankle (front and back) and then subtracted the mannequin ankle length and divided it by four (44.8-29.5-15.3 divided by 4 = 3.8) I did the same for the knee and then I took the measurement out on the pattern.

3.       I lowered the waist by 6cm (front and back) because I want the waistband to be thick and high.

4.       Once I drew all my design lines I traced it off. Then in order to be able to add the panels on the sides, I had to sample where it curves so that it would match when I sewed it properly.

5.       I traced the trouser pattern up to the knee (front and back) and added the 1.5cm seam allowance all around.

6.       I cut it out in calico, sewed the darts in and sewed the side seams together with 1.5cm SA

7.       Pressed seams open.

8.       I drew in where the panel would go.

9.       Because the side of the trouser is a little bit baggy, I put it onto the mannequin and fitted it by pinning on the sides.

10.   I cut off the excess fabric and adapted the pattern. I then added the SA on the pattern.

11.   I also took the crotch in a little because it was too baggy.

12.   I cut out the pattern and adapted where the curve of the side panel would be.

13.   I cut out the panel and added the SA along the edges. I did the same on each of the pattern pieces.

Chen trousers in final fabric...

On Monday I started to cut out my Chen trousers in my final fabric. I had some trouble in ovelocking the lace and crepe together but I got though it. Today I started to sew the panels (front and back) and here's what the front looks like (the back looks the same).

Michiko Coat Time!!

Two days ago I have finally started manufacturing my Michiko coat in my final fabric. Here is what I have sewn for now.

Today was the day!!

Today I've finally finished all of my toiles. I am really happy and excited that I have funnily done all of my toiles and I can now start on my real fabrics. I have just over month to make everything so I'm a little nervous but I know that it'll work out. So here's what my collection look like bearing in mind that they aren't made in my real fabrics yet so there isn't much colour to it.

Dress toile 2: Jin Youzhi

I have finally finished toiling my second dress toile. Here's how I have made he dress, I won't be showing you how I've pattern the dress because it would take too long. Enjoy!!

•  I cut out all the patterns in calico. (not the shoulder pieces)

(back pieces on the left hand side and front pieces on the right)

•  I then sew the front panels together with 1.5cm seam allowance (right side panel to middle panel then middle panel to left side panel).

•  I did the same steps as what I did for the back panels. 

•  I knotched around the curve seam then pressed it open.

•  I then sew the side seams with 1.5cm seam allowance. I left a gap on the right side of the dress for the zip to be sewn in but I don't need to sew a zip in since it's only a toile. 

 -I had to open the seam on the right side of the dress because I couldn't fiit the dress on the mannequin in any way.

•  I then lowered the back neckline and adapted that to the pattern then added seam allowance.

•  Because of the dress wouldn't go into the mannequin in any way I have decided that I will have to attach poppers on the right shoulder seam on my real garment.

•  I then created the shoulder feature the same way as I did for the Jia Li dress. The only different thing is that I am going to add chains with it.

•  I have sewn in a small tab for the chain to be attach into.

•  Here's is what the shoulder feature would look like but the silver chains are a bit too long so in my real garment I will have to shorten them a little bit.

•  I then sewn in the armhole facing on the right armhole.

•  I then drew in where I would like the cut out hole on the left side of the dress.

•  Once I was happy with the shape and where it is, I then cut the shape out.

•  Then I bias bind it
