Continuing Michiko coat toile....

Attaching the Fish Fin

  • I drew the design line where I wanted it to be on the side of the coat. I then measured the line with measuring tape (46cm).
  •  Now I measured the 46cm on the calico, I then cut out out a semi-circle and pinned it where I drew the design line.
  • The length was a little long so I trimmed it and took it off to draw pattern from it.
  • I now made a pattern from the shape but it half so that I can just cut it on fold.
  • I cut out 2 of the pattern in calico then sew the top with 1.5cm seam allowance.
  • I trimmed the seam in half to reduce bulk the turned it right way round.
  • Sew the fish fin pattern on the coat where I drew the design line earlier on. Note: I have to bias bind the edges on my real garment.

Here is what it looks like when I finished sewing it on the coat.
